Who I Am

Hi, I'm Shae.

And pictured next to me is my dog, Cooper. If you're an animal person too he just might make an appearance in one of our sessions. 😊

I love my work as a therapist. You know the old adage, do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life? For me, that's helping people. I run Shae Loucks Psychotherapy LLC part-time. For my full-time job, I work as a therapist at a shelter/housing program for 12 to 24-year-olds who have been sexually exploited. Working with trauma (especially childhood trauma caused by abuse) is my thing. I am also skilled at working with anxiety and emotional regulation. If you're interested, I've listed some of my training below.

When I was a kid, I experienced my own traumas that led me to therapy. I also struggled with an anxiety disorder. I had plenty of not-so-good experiences with therapists! I know first-hand how scary coming to therapy can be.

In my career, I've worked in all sorts of social work/therapeutic jobs. This includes elementary school social work, psychoanalytic therapy, and helping adults experiencing mental illness function in their homes. I've also lived in Thailand, Kenya, and Uganda working in settings like hospitals and children's homes. I've worked pretty extensively with all ages and gender identities of children, adolescents, and adults.

My style of therapy is warm, nonjudgmental, and relational. I love to help my clients find their authentic selves--to decrease their anxiety and depression, and to give them peace of mind. I work best with clients who are ready for a change.

In my downtime, you'll find me petting dogs, painting, playing music, eating grilled cheese sandwiches, and watching documentaries on Netflix.

If you're still reading, there's a good reason why. I hope you will reach out to me at therapy@shaeloucks.com so that I can answer any questions you have. All the best to you as you navigate your mental health journey. ⭐️
